What do you stand for? (Part 1 of 2)

Jul 21, 2020

A few years ago I sat with a long list of words in front of me, orange highlighter in hand. I started by highlighting all the words that resonated with me. Being someone who loves words in all their glory, this was fun for me — until it wasn’t. As I proceeded through the subsequent steps, which involved sticky notes and wonderfully inky markers, I struggled.

The activity was meant to help me identify my core personal values, but it felt like every round of cuts that I did, I was cutting off a bit of myself. I had to be ruthless with words. What was I saying about myself by choosing one value over another?

Eventually I whittled the list down to five core values. What I saw was me.

The pile of discarded words reflected admirable values, enviable values. And while I may have valued those values, they weren’t at the core of who I am.

Since then, I have used that list of words, those core values, to guide my choices in life. I also extrapolated those core values to define the tenets upon which I founded my business. Amazingly, it took me a matter of minutes to write what is arguably the most important statement of my business, the beliefs on which Cresta Solutions is based. They are that:

  1. Anyone can be a leader.
  2. Everyone can be creative.
  3. A diverse community is essential.
  4. Purpose fosters growth.
  5. Learning is a core aspect of wellness.

This is what I stand for. This is what Cresta Solutions, LLC stands for.

When you work with Cresta Solutions, you get authentic me and an approach that is based on these tenets.

So, what about you? What do you stand for, and how does that guide who you are in the workplace? Let me know!

P.S. For a deeper dive into what I mean by the tenets listed above, check out this Rapid Read: What do you stand for? (Part 2 of 2)
